I know they're not exactly woodworking tools, but I love safety stuff and bought 4 of these couplers from Grainger to go with my new compressor. They're on sale for about $6.50 depending on size (the couplers, not the compressor). That's 70% off or so while supplies last. No idea how many are left, my 4 came from 3 different sites LOL.
If you search for Dyna-con couplers, then search within results for the word "Safety", they pop up. Or: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/4TL35
They also have 1/4 and 1/2" or 3/8->1/4
These are manual release, so 1/4 turn twist / push or pull the collar / 1/4 turn twist back. They vent the downstream pressure before they unlock, so no hose whip. Much nicer than the HarborFreight ones at the same price, and safer.
Best,
Todd
