While browsing through the new McFeelys catalog looking at plug cutters, I happened to read through a description of the cutter that suggested "For best results, drill to full depth of cutter."

I chucked up my Snappy, grabbed a piece of scrap and cut deeply. Popped it out with a screwdriver, tried it in a Snappy-cut countersink hole and YES, that's the magic.

So, for all you frustrated plug cutters, drill deep. There is actually a slight chamfer on the top (bottom?) that allows the plug to easily fit straight into the hole and then tighten up with simple tapping.

See what you can learn from reading screw catalogs?

I've taught myself to gauge the depth of my plug cut to the depth of my counter sink. Since I don't use a pilot/countersink drill with a stop for consistent depth, this is necessary.

Anymore wisdom your wanting to share from reading screw catalogs?

That is very neat. It sure beats cutting them on a bandsaw and having them fly all over the place. I finally thought of using the magic blue tape to keep them attached, but I like your idea even better. Thanks.
