My humble offering. Its hickory. From a crotch piece. The pith runs through both sides. Beginner's work at best. The wood was challenging. I had some other hickory that I tried to turn. It was cracking faster than I could rough out a bowl. Used CA to stop the splitting around the pith. For a finish I applied two coats of tung oil and 7-8 coats of wipe-on poly over the oil.

Thought something was funny when I made the original post. Maybe it will work now. Thanks

Nicely done. I can the pic now, and could not when I first saw the thread last night.
Having turned this first piece, the sky is now the limit... and every tree being taken down is potential turning stock. Just listen for those chainsaws.

Nice job.
Like I read somewhere - once you start turning, you look at every downed tree as a potential project.

This bowl was a result of Hurricane Matthew.

I've finished a spalted oak bowl that I'll post sometime.

And 40-50 pen blanks ready to finish.

I called Woodcraft's 1-800 -# one day and ordered 40-50 kits. They gave me a price. I countered. They accepted. YMMV.
