My wife and kids just got back from visiting my in-laws and my father-in-law sent me an old piece of narrow gauge railroad track about 5" long and 2.5" tall. He thought it would make a nice anvil. When I first saw it, it was covered with rust and pretty dirty. Sorry, but in a case of striking hindsight I guess I should have taken a before picture. After much de-rusting and cleaning and sanding and polishing and painting, I arrived at a pretty nice little anvil.

My intended use will be to peen over brass rivets and straighten cut nails and other anvily activities. Also, this will be nice for some leather work.

Here you go:

Find a way to mount what you've shown upside down and you'll have a larger and flat table and square edges for doing chamfers. You might even be able to drill in a hardie hole in the thinner portion of that wider top (formerly bottom) flange!
