My Grizzly 1 x 30 is dead. I need to replace it and I would like to have a better one.

It looks like nearly all are made in the same factory but get a different paint job.

Does anybody have a better one or know of a better one?

I want to stay with the 1 x 30 because I have a big box of belts.

Mike, when you say it's "dead" are you talking about the motor, or another part of it? Would replacing the motor bring it back to life? If so, I've got some used motors, and I'd be glad to give you one. If you think this might work, send me a PM.

Bill,

Yes, the motor is dead and the motor shaft drives the belt directly. I believe it would have to be the same motor/shaft to work.

Most of the tool is worn too and it never tracked well. I really want to upgrade because this is one power tool I use a lot.

I just looked at the new Rikon sander. It has a TEFC motor, seems to me like all sanders should. 1/3 HP instead of the 1/4 I have. Looks like the tracking mechanism is a little different.

Does any body here have the Rikon yet? What do you think of it?

Did the magic smoke come out of it?

Will it run if you start the motor spinning by hand?
-- if yes, it's a bad cap

Is it throwing sparks when it runs?
-- if yes, it could just need new brushes

Far be it from me to talk you out of buying a new [STRIKE]toy [/STRIKE] tool, just thinking maybe it could be repaired...

Even if I fix it I still want a better one.

So, I would really like some info on the Rikon or a better sander.
