Maple - What Kind

Picked up some today. Not very good at wood identification for most of it.

Supposed to be maple. Hard? Soft?

I would agree with soft maple.

Ok. I happened into a few hundred bd ft of it for a very good price. All rough sawn 4/4, 6" and 8" wide, 8' long. MC, where I can get my pin meter to register, was 3.4%

Looks like Hard Maple. Acer saccharin. But I would have to physically inspect it to be sure. Can you sink your fingernail.into it? If so, probably soft maple/ red maple; if not prob. Hard maple.

Sink? No. Pressing my thumb nail in, it only left a very small impression.

I'll get a picture of the end grain in the morning.

That's a sink, so you prob have soft maple. If it was Hard maple you wouldn't have left any mark
