Same maple tree. This one is a little deeper and I did pull a small core out of (more to come).

~8.1" dia. X ~4.5" deep, ~5/16 wall. A little character in the wall in the center picture. Can't see through the knot but it might fall out as it dries.

Used a 50mm tenon for coring. Not smart but made it work.

C&C welcomed.

What does that mean? 50mm in diameter or 50mm long?

I am assuming you rechucked it since there is no tenon in the final picture?

OH, and nice work!

Love the knot!
Are you planning on turning it again once dry?
I would expect the base to get out of flat as it dries.

Hank,
Tenon was 50mm diameter. The tenon was removed using Cole jaws.

Hitch,
It's done except for some sort of finish. We'll see about wobble as it dries.

I've turned a couple more since this one. Is there interest in seeing more?

So, why did you say that was not smart?
50mm (~2 inches) to an 8" diameter (4-1 seems reasonable...)

A larger tenon provides more crush area to hold the bowl. Smarter for coring.
