countersinks and aluminum

How bad would it be to use something like this on a piece of aluminum? I need a shorten a piece of miter bar stock and will need to drill my own hole in order to fasten it down.

That will do the job on aluminum or brass.

Keep your speed up and watch out for galling, though. Aluminum will tend to stick to the cutting edges on this type of countersink. DAMHIKT.

I like the single flute ones instead. Use some "tapping fluid" (also known as WD-40) on the hole to keep aluminum from sticking to counter sink.

be sure to clamp your work piece as well, or you'll very quickly get some bur chatter.

I have found that these countersinks from Lee Valley work extremely well in stuff like T-track. They cut pretty well and the angle is just right (82 degrees). :icon_thum
