Not exactly related but helps to know that I am not the only one. I recently bought some nice 6 inch hard maple to use in a segmented bowl and when I ripped some 1.5 inch strips they turned into pretzels.
Hard maple will move alot, especially if it has any figure (internal stresses) soft maple on th eother hand typically is very stable.

This goes back about 20 years but the one kitchen I've built the cabinets for used raised panel doors out of oak and had little 3/8 cope and stick doors. I'm sure some were at least 18 inches wide and the panel was a full 3/4 thick. I had no issues with the joints. If I was making the same doors today, I would put a domino in, however. I didn't have a domino 20 years ago - did they even exist?
