Grit progression when sharpening?

I’m curious what grit progressions you guys use and what products. I used to use sandpaper on a flat piece of leftover granite from a job I was working on. I’d start around 300 and work my way up to 3000. It got my stuff pretty sharp but not where I thought it should be. Last year I got more...

Water-stone users....

Show me your stone ponds or how you store/use them. Any tips would be appreciated. I have been sharpening with a well worn DMT diamond stone, but just didn't have the grit differential to do what I wanted to do with it. So on my chisel shopping spree I thought it might be a good idea to upgrade...
