researching

Researching wood (Since we're on the subject)

I picked this board up a couple of years ago just because it was different. I'm not sure what it is, the grain looks like Maple, but it is very dark. Any ideas? (Board is on the left in 3rd pic) Mike

Researching wood

I found a pice of wood in my shop that I have no idea where it came from or what species it is. Does anyone know of any websites online that may be able to help? I tried googling wood species, but I got back mostly sites that are companies selling products and explain what species they use...
