walnut bowls

My mother told me the other day that someone told her that walnut was not good for bowls spoons, cutting boards, or anything that would come in contact with food. Is there any truth to that? I can see where there is potential for it to impart it's own taste to food (if you're a careless cook...

drying roughed bowls?

Turning Gift Bowls

This year there are more than just the cutting boards and wine stoppers on the gift list ... we've got bowls! Here are a few I cranked out this weekend. Most are bradford pear and spalted maple, with one exotic (forgot what it is though...:gar-La;). All are finished with the Beall Buff 3-step...

First and Second Bowls

Here are my first two attempts at turning a bowl. Needless to say it almost nothing like turning a pen. Unfortunately I marred the inside of the second bowl when I rechucked to sand the outside.. Oh well.. I am learning. :)

Burl Maple, Pecan & Zebra Bowls
