A headboard for our guest bedroom.
This project has been on my honey-do list for a few years now.
Finally got a round tuit.
I told Mike (Shamrock) that I had finally finished it and was politely reminded of the "no picture - it didn't happen rule"!
So here it is:

Hay,
I'm looking for some beech blanks 4x4x12 to make a set of Hollow and Rounds molding planes with.
I don't want to use lam blanks. and at this point green wood would be ok....
I've been calling around for at least 20+ places...and nothing. It's all 1" riff cut or flooring junk:BangHead:

How does european beech do in the weather?
Why do I ask? Well, my uncle has a large sail boat and wants to build some shelving for it this week (at my shop). Nothing fancy, but something that will stand up to life at sea. I don't think it would "exposed" outside to the weather, but rather in...

I need 3/4 or 4/4x2.5x12" scraps of most any hard, tight-grained wood. I make chairmaking tools (handtoolwoodworking.com to see them). If someone is milling any of these woods and can convince me that they aren't infested with powder-post beetles, I would also be interested.
Thanks,
Elia

It's in Colfax and looks to be around 3 ft dia and twenty feet long.
Just wondering if anyone has used European Beech before? What did you like or dislike about it? I am considering using that on a set of end tables and was wondering if it was a good choice. I see on some suppliers sites they say it has become a replacement wood for a lot of hardwoods as it...
Hey folks,
Anybody looking to build a workbench soon might want to check this out. I was at Horizon Forest Products in Charlotte today and they have a gorgeous pallet of 8/4 Europeen beech. This stuff is straight grained with a color very similar to hard maple. It's stiffness and impact...
Does anyone have any experience drying beech or similar wood? All of the references i've found mark it as difficult to dry, prone to checking, splitting, and bowing. I was considering getting some green beech for a workbench, but with the difficulty drying i was wondering if i would ruin more...
