Hey folks -- I picked up a Sargent Hercules (c. ~1950) smoothing plane at a flea market 2 weeks ago and I need some help tuning it. I have researched the process and understand it well, but with such a nice tool I don't want to lay untrained hands on it. Could anyone in the triangle area (Chapel Hill or Durham are most preferable) tune it for me, explain the process as you work, and let me peer over your shoulder?
In return, I don't really have much to offer. It pains me to say I'm flat broke right now and as such don't really have anything cool to offer. But I'm glad to help if you need a strong back (and young taboot!) to do anything, or maybe just want your shop cleaned, I would gladly do it in exchange.
