Diamond lapping film

I just saw a post on Facebook about this Lee Valley product - Diamond lapping film (http://www.leevalley.com/us/wood/page.aspx?p=68943&cat=1,43072)

No idea of longevity or sturdiness, but just another interesting entry in the myriad sharpening options!

I make my own with diamond paste on a sheet of phonebook paper taped to glass.

That looks interesting. Worth a try. I do most on a CBN wheel, followed by a few honing strokes on a water stone. But the water stone, keeping it flat and getting it whet is always a hassle.

Yeah but one Charlotte Yellow Pages phonebook gives you 325 pages and I can get 4 different grits on one page so there's value there. If times get lean I can use the other side. :wink_smilSeriously though...the paper is very thin and compresses very little but holds the grit well. It holds up if you remember to pull towards you and saves arm hair because you can test the sharpness on the edge of the paper.
