Why is it called a Buffalo knife?

Pete, it a collaborative effort between three members of a camping/hunting board. We were going for a mountain man/1840s/buffalo hunter look. A blacksmith in Texas made the blade and the sheath will be made by a member in Canada and will be buffalo hide. So, I thought the buffalo nickels would add to that rustic look. It's just an attempt at an old style simple skinning knife.
