This tree was taken down last week and Chris and I had the privilege to get it.
The logs were 30" in diameter and 13 feet long. The two logs were almost 1000 bf of of old growth short leaf pine.
I counted on the fly 175 rings which means this one started as a sapling in 1835. WOW!
I am contemplating cutting down two straight yellow pines (loblolly pines) and planning on have a saw mill cut me some lumber that will be eventually used in the construction of a new wood shop.
Could anyone advise as to the best time of the year to cut the trees down if I plan on having them...
