New Outfeed Table Plus Shop Photos

Since completing my new shop, I have wanted to build an outfeed table. My last shop, while functional, was too small to warrant an outfeed table. While searching various designs, I stumbled across a website called "Down To Earth Woodworking". The woodworker (Steve) has posted a series of videos showing him building an outfeed table for his new SawStop Table Saw. Since I own a SawStop this got my attention. I viewed the entire series as well downloaded his plans (PDF file) from Highland Woodworking. The end result is shown in the following photos. One of the unique features of the table is that the top "floats". The top, which is a torsion box, sits on four leg levelers that can be independently adjusted with a screw driver from the four small holes seen on top of the table. This design allows me to adjust the outfeed table top to fit the top of the tablesaw across the width of the entire saw. The floors in my shop seem to be level, but I am sure it not perfect. That said, with this adjustment feature, the outfeed table is a consistent 1/16" lower than the saw-top across the width of the saw.

I have no idea if the pictures I am trying to post will be worth seeing, but I'll try.

What a great project, Donn. I also like the rest of your shop. And what is the story on the tall tool cabinet in the background of the last pic? Did you build that?
I'll gladly tell you how I do something. Just please don't confuse that with the right way to do it, and almost certainly not the only way.

Dennis, I simply used a jig made out of a few scraps. I aligned the table to the saw, marked the location of the slots on the table, clamped the jig to the table and used mortising bit (with bearing) to cut the slots. The slots on the saw are 3/4" so I made the slot on the table 7/8". As I recall, I them 3/8" deep.

Bill, thank you for asking about the tool cabinet. That was the very first project I made after retiring (almost 9 years ago). It is made from quarter sawn red oak. As I recall, I used plans I downloaded from "Plans Now". I purchased the lumber from Scott Smith who also gave me all sorts of valuable tips. When I retired, I was a woodworking rookie, so I practiced various techniques on shop furniture before trying it out on the "good stuff". As an example, I wanted to replace the bathroom vanities in my old house, but I had never built anything with face-frames. In order to gain some experience, I built a cabinet that included an miter saw station and router table. It worked out fairly well as did the vanities.

Re: New Outfeed Table Plus Shop Photos

Beautiful job on both those pieces, Donn. I think either one would qualify as indoor furniture. Over the years I've honed my woodworking skills the same way. I try new ideas, techniques, finishes, joints, etc. out on shop projects before putting them to use on a piece of furniture.
I'll gladly tell you how I do something. Just please don't confuse that with the right way to do it, and almost certainly not the only way.

Very nice pieces and a really nice looking shop. Looks too clean though.
