    Little Library

A good friend asked me to make this for him as a Xmas gift for his girlfriend. What a giant PITA. All the plans I read basically said to screw plywood together, paint it all over and use an 8x10 picture frame as a door. I just couldn't do it that way. A one day project stretched to a week... Oh well, the next one will be easier.

It's always the little things that reach out and say "GOTCHA!!!"

Still it is a little one.

I’m embarrassed to say, what exactly is it?

Don't be...I asked the exact same question. Apparently you put them in your yard. You register it, fill with books and people take a book, leave a book or both.

One side for kids... One for adults.

I hear it's a thing in Cary. Not so much out here in southern Pitt County.

    Re: Little Library

Okay, I have heard of this before. It must be a smaller box than I realized though the 8” x 10” door should have made it more obvious.

Thanks for explaining it. It’s an interesting concept.

BTW, I am on a corner lot and already have a few too many people and waaay too many of their dogs visiting my yard, so the micro library is a fad I will likely skip.

They're called "Little Free Libraries" and they've been around for quite awhile. They may have been a fad about 10 years ago.

    Re: Little Library

I have been seeing little free pantries lately. They are for homeless or food challenged people.

Some churches have them and i have seen a couple in areas where homeless people congregate.

    A noble idea!

I got pulled into making one for a woman in my neighborhood. It is very popular actually. People out on a walk look inside of the small house/library and find something they like and they take it and put another in as a replacement.

Once I built it and delivered it, the person wanted me to get a post, dig the hole, pour the cement and mount it. I put my foot down after the build and said this is like a relay race and here's the baton.

FWIW, the one in my neighborhood is hugely popular with readers of all ages.
