    Miter Saw blade sharpening source?

Its time to get some crosscut blades sharpened. Dull blades in 10" and 12" blades.

I prefer not to send them off to a distant shop. Reading some old thread info here, it looks like Raleigh Saw is a good place to have blade sharpened. Another shop told me that Ashcroft in Raleigh is their top choice. Don't know?

I guess it will come down to Ashcroft or Raleigh Saw?

Seems like I'm fixing a bunch of machines?? First the 20 inch bandsaw tires, next came the 2hp air compressor blew a head gasket after the small compression flapper valve cracked off, then the Subaru power washer carb bowl leaks gas, leaf blower won't start-- carb rebuild.

Like Rosanna used to say: "If its not one thing its another but its always something"

Re: Miter Saw blade sharpening source?

I've used both Ashcroft's and Raleigh Saw. Rubin Ashcroft sold his son the business in the early eighties, and then decided he was tired of doing nothing, so he started picking up blades from contractors, and sharpening them in his garage. I could set my watch by the fact that he would be at my job on Thursdays at 11:30. Friend later bought business after retiring from IBM. Toolferrone used to work for Raleigh Saw. Now I send my blades to Dynamic in Buffalo NY. Got some there now that should be back later this week. Precision Saw picks up at Scott Smith's place regularly. When Klingspor relocated to Cary, it was no longer economically justifiable for Ashcroft to service them, as they had no other customers in the area. Check with Talberts and see if they send out blades to be sharpened.

Never had a miter saw blade sharpened so I'm just curious about how expensive (ballpark) having a carbide tipped or steel blade sharpened is, including postage if you send it off?

I use Leitz. I have used Raleigh Saw, and Forrest, but Leitz is by far the best job, and by this I mean that the cuts coming off the blade are substantially better after the Leitz sharpening vrs. the others. They are in NC so the shipping is not horrible.

Shipping to sharpen is about $14 for a large "Flat Rate Box" from USPS. Most sharpeners charge about $7.50 for first blade, and a buck more each additional blade. Check out Dynamic Saw's web site to get an idea of sharpening cost and shipping.
