Drill Gauge Pilot Hole Index Question
I ran across and lost a drill gauge, or maybe it was a screw gauge, that had appropriate pilot hole sizes for various screw sizes. I'm pretty sure it was the Irwin brand, but any brand will do. Where can I find this type of gauge that matches pilot hole drill sizes with screw sizes?

Re: Drill Gauge With Pilot Hole Index
Do your wood screws have a tapered shank or a straight shank over the entire length? The pilot holes in softwood are a little smaller while those in hardwoods are a little larger relative to the overall screw diameter.

I just use the metal drill index box to roughly gauge the drill bit size that I should use.Last edited by Jeff; 10-11-2018 at 09:51 AM.
