    Re: Stay safe and dry

I'm debating on a generator purchase. Hard to find at big boxes. Anything on CL or other SM sites are greatly overpriced for the most part at the moment.

I'd really rather wait and get a propane powered unit since we have a 200 gallon tank, and potentially get it wired up directly to the panel box for critical breakers.

I'm still electrified for now, but we have lost power several times for lengthy periods in the past.

If anyone has a spare I'd be willing to rent it at some point if we lose power so I don't have to pay up right now for something with less power than what I'd like to eventually put into place.

    Thanks!

Itís best to wait for a propane unit.

For years I had a 5500 watt low rpm propane generator on an automatic transfer switch protecting the critical circuits on the farm. It would run for about 3.5 days solid on a 100 gallon tank.

Today I use a 12KW Diesel engine welder, but need to finish hooking up a 16KW propane gen set and ATS that I recently acquired. Another project....

I have a 7500 watt IR generator that's has hardly any hours on it. It was my brother's who worked for IR a few years ago. I started it about once every six months and would let ir run out of gas each time I started it. Now I can't get it to fire, appears it's not getting gas. I believe the float needle is stuck. Anyhow, I'm in no shape to fix it. I'll sell it for $500. It's like brand new.

I went into the Lexington SC Home Depot today and they had at least a dozen 6500W Ryobi generators. They are asking $699 for them.

I have my boat battery in the great room with my inverter next to it. I doubt I will need either but if I do, it will power the internet and entertainment devices.

Just windy here, no rain yet. Forecast is down to just a couple inches but it will get windier. Max gusts are projected to be about 40mph.

Thanks all, most everyone faired fine in Greenville, and a friend checked on our shop in Ayden late yesterday with an all good report.

I have been in touch with several friends in New Bern and it is not good down there. I will update with specifics as I hear back from them. If necessary I will organize a group to meet at our shop in Ayden with trucks/trailers/saws to head down for relief. I'll update later today.

    Re: Stay safe and dry

Left Maysville NC area on Tue with LOML, daughter, son in law and our granddaughter. Stayed in Hickory until yesterday. Currently in Cary (Klingspor at both these locations is a mere coincidence). Traveling in a three vehicle convoy, 2xcars and 1 fifth wheel RV with 3 dogs, 2 beta fish.

The folks at the Fairfield Inn, Hickory were great!!! Accommodating all needs and all guests from migrant workers to rich folks. Cary... disappointing. Feel like I should be happy they are letting me drop $320 a night to sleep here.

6 yo granddaughter told us she hopes there is a hurricane next week so we can go on another adventure!!!

Now we will wait until it's ok to return home. Hopefully our homes will be there, we live 200 yds from the White Oak River in Loco, NC. Thankful and blessed either way.

    Re: Stay safe and dry

Just saw pics of damage in New Bern on the news. I hope our friends in that area got out OK and don't return to a lot of damage. Looks to be a lot of flooding in the area.

    Re: Stay safe and dry

We fared well. Duke Energy turned power of yesterday morning around 11:30. Turned it back on at 6:30 PM yesterday, and in less than an hour, a tree limb took it out. Came back on around 9:30 PM last night. Using my intermediate size (3200 watt) generator, we ran window AC, TV, both fridges, and booster pump. I was ready to put a home made lasagna in the oven, when Duke turned power off. Pulled stove (gas) out and plugged it into generator and finished cooking lasagna. Watched too much "Death Valley Days," staring Ronald Regan,) and "Gun Smoke" staring Burt Reynolds,) but it was the better choice than watching same thing over and over again on the news. Got a ton of small limbs and pine cones to pick up when rain is over. Son lost two red oaks, about 70' tall each.

Anyone hear from Joe Scharle in New Bern yet? Hoping all is ok with him and he hasn't been flooded out.

I hope so but it's bad down there. I have several friends living down there.... One lives off the Neuse and has almost 5' of water under his house.

Joe is fine. He and Diane are staying in a hotel at 40/42.
We had dinner at Cracker Barrel last night.
He plans to return home after power is restored.
