    New [old] toy Darra-James TS

Big Thanks to Yogi [Lucky Goose] for posting about this. Been casually looking to upgrade my old Craftsman table saw with something a little more stable/sturdy. I think I found it.

Darra-James. The only plate on the Cabinet is the MFG plate and it has a stamp of 3708. Not much info out there on them as they were only produced for a couple of years, but this thing is a beast. The cabinet alone is over 400 lbs. We took the motor off (Yogi and my SIL met to help load) to move and transport and I'm guessing it weighs 80-90 lbs by itself. There is no spec plate on the cabinet, but there are several different serial numbers on the bottom of the table. The motor spec plate is provided below and if one of the numbers I see is a date stamp, it is was produced in 1948. Was told it is a 2 HP motor, but I didn't see any info to confirm that on the spec plate. Runs and operated great on the test drive before dis-assembly. It is wired for 220.

There are supposed to be two side wings that are missing, but the previous owner made his own side tables and I got those as well. There was a huge out feed table, but I couldn't get that, as there wasn't enough room on the truck. Thinking about going back for it next week.

I planned ahead and loaded it up on a pallet so I could use the tractor to unload. Now... How do I scoot it inside the shop!?!?

Anyway, here are a few photos.

Looks like a substantial saw. W/ that much weight it should be vibration free.
I'll gladly tell you how I do something. Just please don't confuse that with the right way to do it, and almost certainly not the only way.

David, it looks like a repulsion-induction motor if the RI on the motor plate stands for that. Look inside the end bell of the motor opposite the pulley and see if you see a collar with some sort of brush. If so, you can find out a lot of info over on the OWWM.org site. Good motors.

Thanks, I found this site the night before I Purchased it. Made me feel a little better about getting something that was only produced for a couple of years. They are only open a couple days a week.
