    I don't buy everything I see...

I passed on this Stanley G5 yesterday...$95 was way over my $20 limit.

And I was tempted by this early Bedrock 608. I want one desperately..... but not $275 worth. It was in decent shape but the knob and tote were destroyed.

The last place we went into had a late 40's vintage Stanley #5 and and a pre-war Bailey #5 1/2. They were rough but talked guy down to $30 for the pair. The 5 1/2 was cracked and repaired but I only wanted the iron and frog. I decided to pass for a couple different reasons.

If my wife doesn't find the perfect china hutch soon I'm going to go broke.... She wants a small one she can paint and put in the kitchen. At this point I need one to put all these new tools in....

    Chris, What is a G5? I don’t recognize it.

The G5 is Stanley's version of a self-setting plane, similar to the Sargent auto-set 700 series. Patented by Gage Tool Co. and manufactured as a wood bodied plane. Stanley bought Gage and it's patents in 1919.

I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Chris, I seem to sense a disturbance in the Force here. You say your wife is looking for the perfect china hutch and you do furniture. Doing a Venn diagram, I see there is overlap.

Yep... You are correct. But I hate to spend all that time building a nice piece of furniture just to have her slather two coats of off-white latex on it. Just doesn't seem right to me. I'd rather buy one for $125 or so and let her go to town.
