    Re: Future NCWW Raffle Eligibility

If the raffle winners refuse to pony up for shipping of the larger prizes, i propose we add to the publicized rules that a backup number or two be drawn the day of the picnic. Only the secretary and raffle coordinators will have access to that number. If the prize winners refuse to pay for the shipping, then the winner forfeits the prize drawn and one of the alternate numbers is presented as the new winner.

    Re: Future NCWW Raffle Eligibility

Well Neal posted the same idea I was going to propose. I have no issue with non members purchasing tickets but if they refuse to pay shipping then they forfiet the prize. I also like the ide of check box about cost of shipping so theres no issue after the fact.

I agree with what Scott said - you win it - you pick it up - no shipping !!

While we technically have 10,000 members, a much, much smaller number represents the number of people who are currently active. In order for the Board of Directors to do the best job possible, we need to understand the perspective, wants and needs of the membership we are serving, hence the reason for the poll.

    Jeremy
As I am looking at the poll as it sits on 100 voters today I am wondering? How many of the folks who voted bought raffle tickets?

It seems like you are trying to do the best thing for the forum and please the majority of the active members. That's a tough play to call.

I think if you were going to limit it to only folks who are current members, you would still run the risk of having a person from a distant state asking you to mail it to them on your dime and time.

    Re: Future NCWW Raffle Eligibility

I vote open to everyone with the caveat that prize collection includes a check box or digital signature explaining that winner has x amount of days to collect the prize and are responsible for shipping arrangements if needed.

I found the instruction clear about picking up a prize—it’s unfortunate someone is upset about shipping their prize. At the end of the day, he/she won something and refused to acknowledge rules/guidelines of the raffle.

That person sounds like the type that buys a tool at HD, uses it for a week and returns it and says it didn't work. A month later that same person will be bad mouthing the store for their poor quality plywood.

You just can't win them all.

Hey my recommendation is to send the guy his money for the tickets he bought and auction it off to someone who will "pick it up" if they win.

That was the hope. I'm not sure if the discussion is a net positive or not.

    Re: Future NCWW Raffle Eligibility

It seems these days that on any question that has 2 choices (yes/no, agree/disagree, etc.) the vote ends up pretty close to 50/50. Or at least not definitive. And not just here in NCWW. With that close a vote, no matter what a representative decides there will be enough objections afterwards to make it seem like you did the wrong thing. All you can do is grow a thick skin, make the best decision you can based on your information and desire to do the right thing for the organization, and then move on.

    Hang in there.
