    So, I was thinking...

We have a lot of folks who like to make things,
    some of us sell things,
sometimes it is hard to have enough things to sell for a festival or craft fair,
it is a lot of work to set up and,
    sell all day and,
take it down and pack up at the end,
no task is too large when you break it down into little bits and pieces,
anybody wondering where this is going yet?

Any lawyers and/or accountants in the group that could help advise?

We need "this is how to make it work"
    not "it won't work".

We have talked about a brick and mortar store for members to sell their work but it is not practical.

This would be like a mobile WW store.

I'm sorry if this makes no sense but this is how I think.

Where is this "local arts council?"

Do "they" have someone who "man's" the booth or would we provide the labor?

No, but I was lost from the beginning of the "So, I was wondering" title.

Any lawyers and/or accountants in the group that could help advise?
And how will they advise on this topic? What kind of input are you wanting from them?

Jeff, being lost is a given.

If this needs to be set up as a company I would like advise on the best way to do that from someone who knows.

Maybe we could start a thread of advice on what works for selling at various events, and about how to market, displays various members use, and what the real sellers are. Many scroll sawyers market their work at craft fairs and such, as well as other woodcrafters doing the same. So I'll start a new thread!

Sounds as if you want to do a co op and or a consortium of sorts, so the lawyer would be to advise on an agreement. Which would make it a consignment sales, with potential for more or less participation. Did I drop the horseshoe close?

That is a great idea Mike! Catawba County doesn't have the resource as you do in Stokes County. I had a booth costing $90.00 per month in a an antique and craft store; I was paying money to give away my work. I wouldn't be surprised many other members don't have a resource like your Arts Council either. A great topic to kick the heck out of.

    Re: So, I was thinking...

How many want to sell at the Jomeokee Marketplace Fall 2018 Oct 20 and 21.

We can use the tents and tables from NCWW trailer. The Board of NCWW has agreed to pay the entry fee up to $75 for the first event.

All you need to do is deliver a few pieces of your work and agree to help with either setup-takedown-packing-or man the booth for a shift on one of the two days.

Will there be a percentage of sales going to NCWW? If not, then I think the booth fee should be shared by whoever participates. I have done the group booth but never again. Just my opinion.

We do not want nor expect a percentage of your sales. We feel it is a good way for members to ‘get their feet wet’ without a bunch of money outlay. Yes, the rest of the time you will be splitting expenses. It s just another way to help members.

    Re: So, I was thinking...

As clarification, this is a one time deal.

After this one event the participants will share expenses.

This is a move to help kickstart the cooperation.

    Jerry,
Can you share what went wrong? Maybe we can learn from your experience. Hopefully that can help us make this a positive experience for those involved.

    Re: So, I was thinking...

one thing to be weary of in group sales is price cohesion and non-overlap of products. You don't want 3 people bring pens for sale, and then one prices $10, one $20, and one $30. And if one member is high end $1000 items, and others are $5 trinkets, and can drive away buyers.
