Unfinished Red Oak 2 1/4 flooring search

I am going to need 500 feet of oak flooring to blend in with existing flooring. I live in Durham and found that HD and Talberts Lumber no longer carry unfinished flooring.

Any suppliers in the Ral/Dur area?

Found some at Lowes for 3.35sf and it did not look too good. Still looking.

    thanks

Try USA Flooring, they have locations in Raleigh and Durham, I've bought prefinished red oak from them before but they may also carry unfinished.

Re: Unfinished Red Oak 2 1/4 flooring search

I have no knowledge of your area but I would try other lumber yards. The places that are not open nights and weekends. I get my trim from one locally. A builder sent me there and I used his account for my initial purchases. But I find they are happy to take my business. I just have to find time to get there during the week. Trim is about half of what Lowes or HD gets and is consistently in nice long lengths. Handrail for a staircase was much less - probably at least in part due to shipping. I didn't ask when I needed a bit of flooring recently because I had decided just to use pre-finished (in a closet and on a stair landing). You know builders are putting it in homes so somebody is selling it to them.

Dan, My local HD has the unfinished RO floor at (without your mil disc) $3.07 foot.

Id be inclined to think the quality may be better from an actual local lumber yard but I guess it depends.

BTW, not helpful but Mr. Dunlap (ML stock supplier) sells wood for floors. With his sources, you can imagine how nicely figured they are.

Re: Unfinished Red Oak 2 1/4 flooring search

My son and I just, as carefully as possible, removed a RO hardwood floor from one room to replace with new plywood and a tile floor. This area had once been a bedroom, but is now part of an expanded kitchen/dining area. The RO that we removed is going to be used for repairing RO floor areas in other rooms (closing up old heat register holes). What better way to match the floor than use wood that was laid at the same time and from the same source.

Not exactly super close to you but not too far either. I bought some excellent heart pine flooring from these guys about 30 years ago. They seem to still be in business. Clemmons Hardwoods on Stratford Road west of Winston-Salem. This was when I was building a log cabin in Dugspur, VA a long time ago.

    The Hardwood Store has flooring.
I'll gladly tell you how I do something. Just please don't confuse that with the right way to do it, and almost certainly not the only way.

Dan, have you asked Talbert's to order a few bundles for you? Of course that's sight unseen in any bundle but...
