    Re: New project started

got a little time in the shop after dinner today. got the bow front made and the c**k bead done and did a little tweeking on the rails. next time out there will be to cut up the front to add a drawer. was going to do 2 or three drawers but I think one if more fitting for this piece. probably get it all sanded and assembled this weekend if I get a chance.

    Re: New project started

I have two marble top tables that were in our house when I was a kid. When my mother passed away, I got the tables. Much to my surprise, the marble simply sits on top of the table...no glue, no caulk, just the weight of the marble and gravity.

I'm sure as I write this the table has been sitting in the house for quite some time Fred, as a matter of fact, it' probably landed there within minutes of your beginning the build! I am enjoying the progressive pictures of your build; I feel inspired now to make a curved front table myself, such as was in the house when I was a little smaller, and a whole lot younger. Beautiful as always my friend!

    Fred,
How did you cut the drawer front out?
If the front were flat, I can see you putting it on the table saw and raising the blade, but on a curved front???

Tame way spanky. face down pucker up and pray. Can't use a guard for this but those are just suggestions anyway. Square off the back, eyeball the angle and cross cut with the miter saw.

That's a great looking piece! I'm still in awe about cutting out the drawer front, I would have been extremely nervous and as a result put it off for weeks.

    +1 Bromley’s to hesitation

For me at least, I’m still inexperienced enough to fret over new techniques that could set me back. Your skill, and courage/confidence, are remarkable. Your “go for it” approach is inspiring. Wish I had your experience and practice.

I am in the middle of finishing my basement. I am so bad at mudding dry wall, I’ve been at a single room for over a month. And not because I am fixing mistakes. I dread making mistakes to fix so put it off. Paralysis due to stupidity is frustrating.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product. LOML will want one similar I’m sure.

Wow - inspirational work Fred. I love it so far!

I may have to adopt your practices on dovetails. Outsourcing to Phil sounds like a great way to get great looking dovetails fast. Putting Phil on speed dial now!
