    The art of blade sharpening

I sent out some blades for sharpening while the weather was too cold. In the past, I would use a Harbor Freight sharpener to do touch ups. It did a good job, then it didn't.

One of the blade(s) I sent out for sharpening was an Irwin Marples dado set. It did a good job making box joints for bee hives. If I used it to make a grove or dado it would leave lines and some tear out.

Used it yesterday to make rabetts for the downdraft table I just completed. Razor sharp corners and no lines.

I'm thinking about sending a couple new, never used blades to him to sharpen. He told me they would be better than new and I believe him.

Turner's Sharpening Service, Swansea, SC, if you're close by. He picks up and delivers.

I know of shops that do that routinely. I have a man who sharpens bandsaw blades. The results are better than new but you have to keep in mind that original weld is getting old. Choices.
