If they are kept in an enclosed area (tool box, or drawer) then go by Lowes and get a roll of tool box liner. Costs about $20. It has the same technology as vapor emitting paper. Used to get vapor emitting paper from friendly mechanics. In the days before plastic bags, front end parts came wrapped in to prevent rusting of machines tapers. A hint: Store excess liner in a closed container. Schedule 20 4" DVW pipe with caps works well.

I use Jotoba oil. No problems with stickiness.

Even doing this is no guarantee against rust. You still have to be vigilant.

I use the Paul Sellers oil can.
Instead of oil, I use Ballistol and instead of a can, I used a Tupperware-type container with a sealable lid. I must add that the odor of the Ballistol and I do not get along, thus the lidded container. It is, however, effective and the can I bought on Amazon will last a couple of lifetimes. It is great for plane soles while working. It's as good or better than paraffin wax.

While we're on the topic of rust, take a look at this picture. Notice the lack of rust on the parts at the top versus the abundant rust on the bits at the bottom. It seems like they would rust evenly. So much for Kobalt.

Maybe the parts are not all made from the same type of steel or maybe some liquid water go into the bottom portion of the box and not the upper portion. Kobalt quality from the quality folks at Lowe's!
