    C.S. Osborne Spoke Shave

A friend of mine gave me his grandfather's spoke shave last week. I finally got around to trying it out today and I must say that tool made music in my hands. I'm new to spoke shaves and recently bought two others - one a brand new Stanley metal body plane and the other an antique that closely resembles the Stanley. This one I got last week is wooden bodied and feels great in the hands as the blade runs along the surface of the work piece. I didn't sharpen the blade and but found it was quite sharp already. I think I'll hold onto this gift and use it on a regular basis. As you can see in the third photo it does have C.S. Osborne, Newark NJ stamped on it.

    Re: C.S. Osborne Spoke Shave

A wooden body shave like that can be a thing of beauty to use. I've got one good one and I love to use it.
I'll gladly tell you how I do something. Just please don't confuse that with the right way to do it, and almost certainly not the only way.

I can see the dull edge from here. Sharpen that blade and be amazed!

That's what my volunteer said when I showed it to him. I was amazed it would work without sharpening. But sharpen it I will.
