Want to borrow a Miter Box & Backsaw

I have a number of small pieces of crown molding to cut for the top of a plate rack I am building and they are about 2" long. Too short for me to feel comfortable using the chop saw to cut the 45 degree angles. Anyone have one I can borrow??

Why not just make one and use a dove tail saw? And a shooting board/plane.

Re: Want to borrow a Miter Box & Backsaw

Hey FredP: I was looking for one in good working order just to borrow but thanks for the offer.

JohnnyR: I may have to make one as the offers to borrow are not forthcoming. Won't be able to use a dovetail saw though as the molding is too wide. It will have to be a backsaw with about 5" of cutting depth. The crown molding is custom made (hollows and rounds) and is about 4 1/4" high.

I've got a cheap $15 lowe's miter saw box and saw. You'd spend almost as much in gas driving to me in Clayton to pick up and return, but you're welcome to use it. Not sure how sharp the blade is, it is a cheap kit.

Re: Want to borrow a Miter Box & Backsaw

After watching this episode: http://www.pbs.org/video/the-woodwri...awing-secrets/ and practicing what was demonstrated, I found that I could cut miters more accurately without relying on the box. Buying a good quality carcass saw helped, too.

I had one of the cheap miter boxes mentioned above, and it let the saw wander around too much. I ended up throwing it away.
