Help needed getting on roof in Cary

I need some help getting up on the roof of the place in Cary to remove the Hughesnet Satellite Transponder. Not the whole Satellite, just the transponder at the end of the boom arm. I have to return it or pay them $200. They want $99 to send a technician to remove it.

I guess I'm getting old and Susan and I couldn't get the 30' ladder up to the 25' roof. I have the ladder, just need some strong young bodies to help me raise it up to the roof.

I can meet somebody there around noon about any day (except the 20th - I'll be at the picnic.)

Need to do this pretty soon if I can get some good help. TIA.

What type of ladder is it you have Ken? Is it a wooden or aluminum ladder?

I can give you a hand tomorrow afternoon some time if that helps?

    Or Thursday, or Friday.

P.S. Not sure I qualify as 'young'

Aluminum, but the cord is shot and needs to be replaced. I'm working on that. I had to dig it out of the weeds and small trees that had grown up inside it. Another major chore for things we let get too not used recently - like 10 years.

Appreciate the offer but I think this is going to take a couple of strong individuals at a coordinated time. Keep watching here as we might get a group together one day in the near future. I *DO* appreciate the offer. I think we need more than one volunteer.

I asked because I do have a ruptured disk in my lower back, but can still get away with a lot of things. A wooden ladder is one that I stay away from. Like I told you before it takes 90 minutes for me to get to the luncheons and you said you were not far from there. If you need help, I will be willing to drive down there to give you a hand if you cannot get anyone else. I will see to it you are not stranded!

    No worries.

I'm around most days so if you can get a few bodies to agree on a date, I should be able to help out.

For the sum of $100 I would let their tech remove it. A fall off the ladder would be a lot more expensive. Plus I'm sure they are insured. Friends aren't.

Call Hughs Net and ask them how much liability insurance they carry to cover you if you should fall from roof. A couple million minimum is what I would suggest. You want a copy of policy in HAND BEFORE GOING UP ON ROOF. Did this with DISH, and they said forget it. Also ask them how they intend to patch holes in roof after you remove LNB, and THEY remove dish. Because it's their property, it's THEIR responsibility to remove and return roof to original condition.

Their tech is scheduled to be in Cary between 2-5 on Friday so I will meet them there and get this thing done.

Remind their tech to repair roof. You will for new buyers, and out of your pocket.

Re: Help needed getting on roof in Cary

Wow, such a simple thing. I used to climb 120 foot high Unipole billboards with all my paint, brushes, patterns, and gear. Throwing up a 40 foot ladder is like breathing to me.

Pull it out to full length, lock the catches, brace the feet against a wall, start at the top end and walk it up, when it is standing straight up you can grab a low rung (waist high) and a higher rung (head high), lift and carry it anywhere.

Wish I had seen this sooner, we could have stopped on the way to the picnic and took care of this in 15 minutes.
