After spending 7 hours spraying a large project with one coat of primer and 3 coats of latex I can not help but wonder if I could do it with less coats and get better results using a white pigmented water base lacquer. I recall John talking about it in his finshing class and was wondering if anyone had expereince with the finish technique.

Thanks.:eusa_thin

Nope but I'm really starting to like "water based" finishes. I've had experience with white glaze and clear laquer and also white pigmented laquer but not water based.

I see no reason why you could not mix up your own with water based laquer and some white powdered pigment and shoot it with your spray gun. It would be more or less considered a strong toner and thinking it would require multiple coats anyways.

Best of luck to you

You already know the answer. Pigment Lacquer dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll love how it sprays and how you can rub it out like any other lacquer. Top coat it with clear lacquer for a white finish with great depth.
