walnut crotch wood magazine rack

Staying with the theme of walnut crotch wood for a while longer. I designed this magazine rack and the piece is solid walnut. both ends came from either side of a big hole in the tree, where a big branch was before it rotted off and just left a hole.

I walked into a small 'mom-n-pop' mill between Winfield and Wellington KS about 15 years ago. I really don't recall the name. The guy had two bookmatch planks that were about 6 ft. tall, both with a big open knot hole in the middle. At the time, I think I paid about $40 for the two planks. I made several projects out of the wood, and this was just one of them.
