Using pewter in wood projects

I use pewter for inlays on rifles and other applications that won't get heave wear. Its very easy to use and it only takes a MAP torch to reach liquid form, You have to excavate the cavity for the pour and then you file to shape it. Looking back 200 years I can see why it was so popular.

So what form is the 'raw pewter'? Powder? Rod? Chunks?
Where do you buy it?
I realize a Google search may answer these more general questions, but figure you have favorites.

Having bought a lot of pewter for alloying with lead for bullet casting over the years, a lot of it is reclaimed from old pewter utensils and cups and things.

Dan does the pewter expand as it hardens or do you need to undercut the wood to hold it in place?

I have a long term work in progress ( measured in years at this point) where I am experimenting with pouring pewter into voids in a cherry burl I’m turning. I just don’t like epoxy for this even though it makes sense. That part seems to be working well enough but the burl started coming apart at the base when I hollowed it. HAven’t settled on a secure way to mount it on the lathe now. May have to use some epoxy to hold it together after all.
If I ever get this finished I’ll share photos
