When Jeff sent me two blanks from his Sycamore/Secret Sauce experiment, one stood out to me as exceptional! I knew I had to do something to show off this wood. I had been looking for an opportunity to experiment myself with a 'high end' pen. I ordered the 'Statesman' from Craft Supplies USA (CSUSA) and have anxiously been awaiting its arrival. I turned this pen last night. The pen itself is HUGE...although, with the cap off, it actually does not feel very large in my hand. It writes especially nice with the Shaffer rollerball. Most importantly, however, with the large size comes ample opportunity to show off the beauty of the wood, which is what it's all about. ...still working on the picture quality, but I'm quite pleased with the results. I will try to get a few more pix with additional lighting, but I wanted to get some advertising out there for Jeff!

Awesome Chris, those blanks are spectacular. Your post makes me sad, as I wanted to turn my last "secret sauce" into a special pen also...but alas I screwed it up, by downloading the wrong instructions for the kit. My attempts to salvage the pen, by adding on another piece where I parted it down to the tube vs. leaving a tenon, resulted it disk sander fueled projectile :BangHead: :BangHead: :eusa_doh:
Well, at least you did the wood justice, that's a exquisite pen.
Dave:)

I never would have thought that such a butt ugly piece of wood would make an executive pen. I echo Dave's statement "that's a exquisite pen."

I brightened the photo up a little is this close to the true colors?

It's funny I showed my mom something (I don't remember if it was a pen or trivet) that had some character (Spalting IIRC). She said that it would have been really pretty except for the bad place in the wood - which is exactly why I loved the piece of wood.

Chris, that pen is very sharp!

I guess that's why they say that beauty is in the eye of the "pen"holder!

Beautiful work!!!!:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :icon_thum
