I have got some sourwood trees that need to come down , is the wood worth the trouble to mill or just turn it into firewood?

Never cut any, it sounds like a baby tree, only grows up to 12" diameter. On a straight trunk, 8' 6" long with no taper and 12" on the little end, your looking at a maximum of 8" wide boards. If you were to cut them 4/4 you looking at 6, maybe 7 usable boards (32 ~ 37 BF). At least two, maybe three of the boards will be riddled with pith and ain't no good for nothing but the fireplace. I don't know of any sawyer who cuts logs under 12" diameter (on the small end), not unless you got a bunch of them and your paying a special price.

Leave em standing and get yourself a bee hive, sourwood honey is great.

I've got some sourwood trees here. I'll have to look and see if any of them are big enough to maybe interest you.

I've often wondered what it would look like as a turning.

I'd probably have tried, but have never found any that I had access to.
