Liquid wood that's stainable with your choice of stain? I was curious so I bought a small can of the "Light Wood" and put it on an ash board.

The raw board and after one coat of the Retique It liquid wood.

Put on 2 coats of Cabot's cherry stain and wiped off as directed by Cabot (left end) and one coat of TransTint "reddish brown" dye stain in DNA (right end).

I'm not impressed with this product and won't buy it again but for $20 it was worth a try to see how it performed in my hands.

What was the purpose of this test? Were you trying to subdue the grain of the ash?

Wouldn't a grain filler be better for that purpose?

Is the stain splotchy on the left or is that just a bad photograph?

Did you follow the directions from the manufacturer?

Mike, I wanted to try it and see if it worked as advertised.

The left photo is after the second coat of Cabot cherry stain that was wiped off after about 30 minutes instead of 5-10 minutes. It's not splotchy, just getting overly dry and tacky.

Yes, I followed the directions from the manufacturers.
