Recently completed sapele end tables

Just figured I'd show off my recently completed sapele end tables. Construction is all mortise and tenon with ambrosia maple drawer boxes. The lower shelves mimic the floating look of the tops on both the rails and legs. All hand-cut joinery and finished with Arm-R-Seal satin. These were built to match a tv stand I built a few years ago, so now it's on to the coffee table to finish out the matching set.

yea i like the tops as well. cool detail on top of legs and rails to create that floating look. i'm not sure if i've ever seen that before. the drawer sides are a surprise as well.

Thanks, all. The drawer material was a little bit of a lark. I had some in the shop and wanted to add a little interest, so why not?

Great choice of lumber and design, the floating tops are a great addition. Gives me ideas for my next projects.

I like the lark. did you have any issues joining the tapered legs to the lower shelf? assume you did some sort of angled shoulder?

Thanks. The lower shelf doesn't actually touch the legs, but the angles on the notches match the leg angles. The tenons on the stretchers that support the shelves do have angled shoulders.

Absolutely beautiful. I love the floating top & shelf, and the design is both traditional and contemporary at the same time.
