Its Cypress Dave, I guess I left out that little tidbit of info. Its the 2nd one I've made first was for the misses this ones for one of her coworkers and wanted to wait till I finished it to enter cause I wanted to try for a better photo than the first one I made.

I made These today. Started with 8/4 Maple and 8/4 purple heart for the chopping block. it is now 1 and 5/8 thick it is an end grain block. The other is a cutting board made from 6/4 Mahogany and 6/4 Maple. it is now 1 and 1/4 thick.

A few months ago Tom Ferone agreed to help me learn the fine art of box making. So, off and on, with Tom's instruction, the following have been made for Christmas presents.

One for my wife and each of my three daughters.

The Big Leaf Maple inserts I can credit to NC Woodworker. It was a door prize from the spring picnic.

This was designed by Susan Mey and is cut from 1/8" plywood and has three coats of shellac.
