Hadn’t used my detail sander in 15-20 years and the adhesive was “somewhat” dried out. On a hunch, I wetted the dried adhesive with acetone and clamped the sandpaper to the sander’s pad for a while. Worked OK for the 20 or so minutes of sanding that I had to do.
Got me wondering if acetone and clamping might work on the taped joint of belt sander belts that have been stored too long?
