:eusa_thin I'm just wondering about the differences between the various finishes that people use on pens. Starting off, we all have pretty much worked with the friction polish method. It seems the progression then goes to learning a CA finish and perhaps moving to lacquer if the facilities exist.

So, with the wax based finishes (friction polish and shellac) wear away fairly quickly with the 'abuse' created with everyday use and the harsh conditions created from your hands. So, what about just using a tung oil/BLO/etc. It seems that they would give a nice finish that would still give you the 'feel' of wood. Second, what about other top coats, such as poly?

Thanks...Chris

If you have enough pataience to wait for tung oil to dry and cure( at least a month ) then you should have enough patience for any finish to work well.
Try Unaxol from Moby Dick Supplies.
It is a water based lacquer, you can wipe it on with a paper towel. dries in an hour for recoat.
I think a monkey could apply it.
Get thier sealer also.
they have a penturners "samples" more than enough to do a LOT of pens.
Tell them I Sent you.
