Hey guys, Im a DIY Dad (step below Weekend Warrior). Im currently designing a miter saw station for my garage. Is it possible to have a flex hose from the back of the saw to a 5gal bucket? Or do I need a fancy dust collection system?

You may get some incremental improvement. No harm in trying. Miter saws are tough when it comes to dust collection. Even a cheap vacuum will probably be better than the hose by itself.

You really need vacuum as the small tube will become clogged if you put any restrictions, such as a hose on it. The other problem is you get a quantity of sawdust that flies out around the work. The best system is to make or use a system involving a catch shield, vacuum tubing and dust collector or shop vac. I built a cabinet with overhead storage hutch. I made a catch shield from plywood that got about 80% of the sawdust, and a shopvac underneath. Works fairly well, but no more big piles of sawdust behind the saw.
