Noticed my bench top was nasty looking

So I got out the big cabinet scraper and went to work. About 20 minutes later it looked almost new again.

Thanks for the reminder. I was initially going to break out the belt sander, but this method looks less likely to make a mess.

Just curious- why not use a regular hand plane? Personal preference or any specific reason? (Actually I’m wondering if I need one of those)

A hand plane would take off too much material, I only needed a hair.

Geez Mike, what are you going to do next? Wash your windows, polish your door knobs, and spit shine your work boots? BTW that "big cabinet scraper" is the perfect tool for that job. A plane or belt sander would have taken off more than necessary, and the scraper leaves a smoother finish than sanding.

Washing the windows won't help, they need to be replaced.
Door knobs are ok except the one the Pyr chewed.
Work boots don't see enough use to need polish, maybe next year...

I have this #12 and a #81 that I use since I ruined my hand. A card scraper is too difficult for one and a partial use hand to control and it gets fatigued too fast. I still use a card on my spoons and small parts when I can use it single handed. The #12 is very easy to use once you get it perfectly adjusted. It tends to be rather aggressive or not at all. The sweet spot is with an index card under the body and lightly tap the card to be sure it's level, test and repeat if needed.
