My name is ward green and I recently registered with the website.

I am very new to wood working but it is an art I have respected for many years. I did not have much space to do wood working before my wife and I moved a few months ago. So I am embracing my creativity and the challenge to build things with my own hands. I have not built many things, in fact only three pieces in the past three years: a dowel constructed dinning room table, a shooting range/ utility table, and most recently a .30 .30 ammo box/ safe. The later has been the most challenging but I believe I'll get better with time. I posted a few pictures on a reply to Clay's recent post if anyone is curious.

I hope to learn a lot from the website and be inspired to create more wooden features by the members I interact with. I have a few projects I (and partly my wife) would like to work on: an end-grain chopping block/ kitchen island and at some point a live-edge dinning room table. If you or anyone you know can share any pointers on these projects, I welcome all comments or messages. Thanks!

Welcome aboard Ward. Glad you have some experience, and even know how to post pictures. Design, process, finishing - we welcome your questions and answers on the whole process. There is plenty of experience here, and I have benefited great from NCWW advice many times already. All you have to do is ask...

Welcome Ward! Really glad you're here, and looking forward to hearing more from you as your woodworking experience grows. For most of us, it's an addiction, a very good addiction!

Ward, welcome to NCWW. I'm just around the corner in Rougemont (on Red Mountain). Tell us a bit about the tools that you have available for starters.

Who is Clay and where can we find the pics?

Here's a tidbit to get you thinking (it has a lot of useful how-to-do info).

Here are a few countertops and cutting board options to explore before you start making sawdust........

My apologies Jeff I should have been more clear. Clay is a new member who posted shortly before I joined with a new thread "New Guy in Lee County."

Jeff, Thanks for reaching out. I see you are not far from Schley. The tools I have include a portable Bosch table saw, circular saws, dowel and pocket hole jigs, an assortment of hand tools, a second-hand manual plane (which needs refinishing) and family access to biscuit joiners and other useful tools. Not too much.

BTW, I hate that overused term! I'm on the East side of hwy 501 and not that close to Schley (about 11 miles).

You have a workable assortment of tools to get you started so carry on and enjoy!
