Need 1-1/2” “slice” of 2-1/2” angle approx 1/8”-3/16” thick to match the piece in the photo - I can drill and round the corners myself. Hate to have to buy a full length. I can pre-pay a label at pirate shipping and email it, or meet up someplace not too far. No hurry, need to fix the finish on the wood first. Tried looking up machine shops near me, but only found auto repair. Didn’t see any old school machine shops.

Ultimately planning to hang my old wood shop sign in our sunroom. My daughter rescued the sign from our old house attic but lost one of the angles to attach it.

Definitely overkill. Sign isn’t very big or heavy. The two angles were used to hang it from a 6”x6” cantilevered sign post attached with some lag bolts. Won’t have any ice build up or wind swinging it around anymore.

Nothing workable from the Simpson racks at the orange or blue stores?
I need to revisit the stores listings. The ones I recall seeing were either too thin or too wide or too construction task specific.

Update: After looking at a selection of stocked items, most are a little thin at 14 or 12 ga. 12 ga should be ok, but most at 12 ga have pre-drilled holes that are not really in the right places and none were well sized. The best I saw were a bit small and only 14 ga.

I have two 2 1/4" x 3 1/2", 1/8" thick
Looks difficult to make it workout, cut in half maybe but between the slots and dimple looks doubtful to drill a somewhat centered hole to attach to the tab on the sign frame. Probably schools have included a photo of the sign - it’s an oval with metal strap around the circumference that has two tabs sticking up at the top to attach to the angles. Planning to rotate the angles 90 deg to hang off trim at top of wall.

I have a couple of pieces that may well fit your bill. One 1/8" steel 5 5/8" x 2" x 2.5" and a thicker piece of aluminum that is 14" thick 3" x 3" 7.25" long (I can cut either to suit - have a power metal band saw). So, if need be you could get two 1.5" x 3" x 3" sections so both wood be of identical metal and so forth.

Appreciate it! I’ll measure the tabs and post a photo since both look promising. The steel looks like a channel so possibly would make 2 angles? The 1/8” is a tad thinner but plenty robust for this. .Can’t see leg of alum but ya, probably would look better. Got a fitness class at the Y until 1::30 then some errands, so will get the photo with better measurements when I get home.

"looks like a channel" Actually, it's 1/8" flat stock bent into a bracket - so, same/similar profile as a channel. I have several of these pieces BTW.

The Aluminum is structural angle - hence the 'beefy' ness at the 90. each leg is three inches and the piece can be cut into whatever width is needed. Got to go now. will check in later in the day.

I have about a foot of 2 1/2 x 2 1/2 x 1/4” angle that I can slice off one or more pieces if you wish

Heres what I’m hanging:

This is what I’m looking to match or replace:

Measuring to the wall, a 2” leg could be fine since it can hang closer to the wall. 2-1/2 or 3” allow for decent size to fit two lag bolt holes to mount to wall.

Both Charles and Ted have good options. I think Charles 1/8” steel or 1/4” Al would be easiest for me to drill the mounting holes. I’ll msg.

Why, of course Charles has the right stuff! Been hoarding S*** for decades.

BTW: It's wood, right? 3' wide +/-?

Double sided (e.g. imagery on both faces)?

Does it need to swing?

Actually forgot to measure the sign but approx 3’x2’ oval. Was two sided and did swing freely with the wind when it was in front of shop by the road. That was 35 yrs ago. Daughter rescued it and scone other treasures from our attic after we had to relo to FL. She stayed in the house for a while before returning to Portland since we had to get some drywall work done before we could put house up for sale. I hate drywall finishing so always procrastinated. This time I got lucky.

Main body is redwood wrapped with laminated ash strips. The plane was donated to the cause by a friend who did the steel work and cut it in half. Plane half on other side is somewheee in my daughter’s basement. They bought a new house in late summer and haven’t unpacked everything. Since I’m now just hanging it in the sunroom wall as a memento of my youth, no need to see other side and no need to swing.
