have made a table out of red ceder. would like advise on how to finish. very nice grain and color and do not want to louse it up .advise very much appreciated, thanks, lburke.
I always like the results I get from an penetrating oil like Danish Oil, Waterlox, any Tung Oil blend product (so many are not pure Tung oil) or anything that is a oil, Mineral spirits, and varnish blend. Heck, you can make your own by mixing 1/3 BLO, 1/3 MS/ 1/3 Polyurathane. It's a rub-on finish, so it is easy to apply. Then seeing as it is a table you can varish, poly, or lacquer the top for added protection. But as many wiser men (and women) than I have said many times before...Try out your finish on a piece of scrap sanded like the actual piece. Then you will know how it will look and you won't be playing Russian roulette with your project. Lastly....show us some pics, I love the colors in Red Cedar.
