Is it planed through the outer surface everywhere or only on the right hand side? How about a pic of fresh cut end grain?

I'm not very good at this but I LOVE trying to solve a mystery! :)

Re: mystery wood more pics

I took some more pics.
Made a new cut and tried to get a good end grain pic:-?
When cut it has a bad odor:eusa_thin
the end grain looks a lot like oak with some open pores:eusa_thin
one spot looks like its from a worm:eusa_thin
the colors may be a little off because of the lighting

there is 3 peices of wood in this pic

end grain can not really get close enough to get a real good pic

I could lean a little towards Teak or Beech now, with these new pics. It's rough taking a test when no one has the answer key :eusa_doh:

I still think it is Mahogany. The little grain lines in the big grain lines. How does it cut? If it cuts easily, that reinforces my opinion of Mahogany. Mahogany stinks some (never bothered me), and is open pored.

mahogany would be my guess but if you can drop it in a tub of water. if it sinks it might be ipe.
