With a schew. It's super easy. Just lay it flat and ease it into the wood till you get the depth you want, flip the schew over if you want a round groove. Play around with the angle you insert it to get the desired V groove.

I tend to hold the skew with a very unsteady, nervous hand, close my eyes, and push forward, where it lands on the pen is where the groove stands!

Looking good man! The skew is a pretty dangerous tool, but when you get used to using it it is very handy for pens. See ya, John
